happy halloween! i thought i'd end the month with two jack o'lanterns! (i'll update the site with the second after i get back from the dentist and carve it. edit: sorry, no time for an extra pumpkin.)

anyway, here's the first: a zack o'lantern.

i also adore her highlights. i'm thinking of doing that with all of my grey hairs instead of dying them pink. (j/k)

i heart bela lugosi movies, i really do. but my favorite thing about mr. lugosi is the fact that he inspired this bauhaus song.

ameri-can werewolf in london

the david kessler character from "an american werewolf in london" as seen in the "nightmare scene" in the hospital (6:38-6:55)(part of video possibly nsfw)) on a can.

i watch "american werewolf" every year and, i swear, it's still as funny and incredible as the first time i saw it.

the sequel? let's just forget that i mentioned it...

i liked the original japanese version of this movie ("ringu") much more.

as far as koji suzuki's books go, the ring was the best of the trilogy, imho.

i must admit that i can't make it through an entire leprechaun movie. this is due mainly to my inability to stop laughing at the phrase "they're after me lucky charms!".

peter pumpkinhead

first up, a special hello to any daily candy readers who might have clicked through!



peter cushing's head on a pumpkin.

this one is a play on an old xtc song ("the ballad of peter pumpkinhead") that i used to get stuck in my head in the early '90s.

while i do always enjoy seeing mr. cushing in "star wars", it's most definitely his work in the hammer horror movies that i love the most. especially "dracula/horror of dracula".

pennywise

pennywise the clown from the stephen king novel it made from halloween clown makeup.

this was a difficult fugitive for me to make due to my irrational fear of clowns. we don't really need to discuss it. just know that this clip makes me want to cry.

reddie freddie

freddie krueger from "a nightmare on elm street" made from red halloween makeup.

the phrase "ready freddie" (it's at the 1:53 mark) always gets queen's "crazy little thing called love" stuck in my head.

"elm street" fun fact that you might've forgotten: johnny depp had one of his earliest roles in the first movie. here's the clip where his character bites it. (warning: goofy slasher movie violence)

i never thought that the monster in mary shelley's book was very frightening until my world lit prof recreated a scene from the book in class. seeing him jumping around and making monster noises was pretty scary! (haha! in a good way, of course. prof. torricelli, if you ever find this blog, you rock!)

god, i love "ginger snaps" (and the sequal. the third movie, uuuuhnm, not so much.) here's the trailer in case you're interested in seeing a female pubescent werewolf movie. (it *is* really awesome and awesomely gory.)

eclair witch project

the iconic image of heather from "the blair witch project" made from eclair cream.

you know, the innards of these little guys.



the months leading up to "the blair witch" were incredible. admit it, you were probably sucked into the web mythology too.

while the movie does seem dated now, after seeing it with friends in 1999, one of those friends refused to ever go camping again (and hasn't since to my knowledge) while the other smoked and cried for about an hour.

so many things about the norman bates character make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. the scene where he's surrounded by taxidermied animals, however, is what *really* tweaks me out.

pamityville horror

i have to admit that i always found "the amityville horror" to be more funny than scary. still, you have to admire the gumption of the people who created the original scare story.
