a fugitive on the new yorker blog!!

hi again, readers! i have some exciting news this morning! (well, ok, to me it's *very* exciting! to you it may be "meh".) "tide of frankenstein" was used in macy halford's transhumanist embodiment critique "your brain must remain in your body" on the new yorker's "book bench" page!

i'm totally dying over here!

hiya, kiddos! i think that the "evening magazine" segment was rerun the other day. (thanks to mary and eric for pointing that out!) if you happen to be someone who is here via king 5, welcome and thanks for stopping by!

everyone else, here's the beginning of a new sketchbook that i'll eventually be mailing to cali as part of the library! project! (sorry i'm so late, slogrl.)

i'll be posting pages as completed in this flickr set. it shouldn't take me much longer than a week.

if you're near calpoly, please stop by and check out the library! rack! it's a thing of beauty!

Night Time is the Right Time

Now for the grand finale....*drumroll*...it's the house at night!

Even the moon cooperated.

Daytime Decorations

As promised, here's a picture of the decorations in place.

The lanterns hanging out on the porch:

Here's Leff's picture of what it looks like inside right now. It's kind of cool. I want to live like this all year!

(Leff also has more photos of the decorations here.)

I'll post again tonight! That should be around 4:30 pdt.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

hey, not martha readers!

thanks for dropping by! (and many thanks to megan for all the fabulous links!) here's a bonus sugar skull lantern that i whipped up tonight as thanks for clicking through!

(made from a recycled glass, recycled construction paper, orange tissue paper and a tea light.)

if you're interested, you can check out all of my halloween decorations for 2009 in the flickr set. i'll post final photos of everything installed here and on my flickr page on halloween!

thanks again for stopping by!

i'm back up to my old stenciling tricks!

no, it's not news of a new show (although i AM working on something) but i thought you s&f stencil fans might like to see one of my new halloween decorations.

(it's made from a recycled glass jar, recycled construction paper, a bit of tape and two tea lights.)

it's our first halloween in our house and i'm *so excited*! (me = halloweiner) you can view the growing set in real time here. i'll be posting about the whole thing on our house blog on the 31st.

oh, in case you don't know about werewolf bar mitzvah, click here and thank me later.

gallery lele show!

i know, i know, i'm terrible about keeping you up to date on things these days. here is something though! i got a picture from the gallery lele show in tokyo where, apparently, i sold something! hooray!

here's the installation shot of the second leg of the "forget me-not" show in case you're interested!

it's nice to make some yen! (even though it'll be converted to usd in my bank account.)

reminder: fiber arctic opening tonight!

just a quick reminder that the fiber arctic opening is tonight at schmancy from 6-9!

sadly, i wont be there because of the whole house thing (ok, i'm not sad about my that. at all! haha! but you get my meaning.) but there's going to be some really awesome stuff on display! drop by and say hi to my ice cold deer, won't you?

bremerton, here we come!

hey, kiddos! today is the day that we, barring any unforeseen weirdness, close on and then start moving into our house! hooray!!!!

i'll be without a home internet connection from the 11th until the 16th. yodeer is set to autopost during that time so you won't be missing a daily deer. unfortunately, i probably won't be able to respond to email, etc during the internet outage.

if you'd like to see what i'm up to, i'll be posting via mobile to my twitter account. i might also throw a few cameraphone images up on my flickr account as well. but if you *really* need to get in touch with me, text me. if i'm not in the middle of painting the stairs, i'll get back to you.

bremerton, here we come!

in no way related to art stuff...

this is in no way related to s&f, but i thought i'd pass along the news that leff and i got approved for our home loan!

it also looks like we're going to be closing earlier than we thought which is fine since everything is already packed.

anyway, yodeer will continue during the move to our first house/opening in seattle/painting/massive cleaning/having visitors in from out of town/my finishing the three pieces for an upcoming show in tokyo/unpacking. (*whew* june is going to be busy!)

hopefully, our internet connection will be fairly constant so there won't be a break in deer posts. however, if it does happen, please bear with me.

k, i'm off to finish cleaning our apartment!

fiber arctic show announcement!

hey there, readers! just thought i'd drop by to mention my next show!

it's at schmancy on june 12 from 6-9p. i'm hoping to be there but leff and i are supposedly closing on our house on the 11th and starting the moving process the next day. (we have a house blog now in case you're interested.)

still, it's going to be a great show! you should *totally* check it out!

a special welcome to "evening magazine" viewers!

hello and a special welcome to anyone who has reached this site after watching the "evening magazine" segment!

while suspect and fugitive has ended, it is still able to be viewed in its entirety starting with the mascapone fugitive at the bottom of this page.

if you are interested in my current work, i'm into my second month on my new 365 project, year of deer (which contains no real deer or deer products). hope to see you there!

would you like to own a small piece of suspect and fugitive? if so, cards are available at either nancy (1930 second avenue, seattle) or through my etsy shop

thanks for taking the time to visit the site! and thanks to "evening magazine" for filming the segment!

hey there, seattle area readers! back in january, the nice folks at "evening magazine" came by casa rakkaleff to film a segment about suspect and fugitive.

well, guess what! the segment airs THIS THURSDAY, 3/19 at 7 pm on king 5!

i've totally already started barfing from nerves.

anyway, it should be available on their website after the initial air date for any of you out-of-towners who might be interested in viewing it. wish me luck controlling the nerve related barfing on thursday! i'm gonna' need it!

mascapone

since today is the last day of suspect and fugitive, i thought i'd end with a fugitive fugitive. in other words, a nonarchival criminal. it's a mascapone!

al capone made from mascarpone cheese.

thanks so much to everyone who stopped by the blog in the past year! also a special thanks to cakespy jessie, skully noah, moxie, kristen and megan from not martha for all of their support! youse guys are da greatest!

a double special thanks goes to leff. he knows why.

don't forget, if you'd like to keep up with another year of my daily posts, a year of deer starts...TOMORROW! drop by! i promise it's going to be even more nuts than suspect and fugitive was.

well, probably by the midway point at least.

hope to see you there!

darrell strawberry

darrell strawberry made from heated strawberries.

yeah, this one is pretty literal. but, as i mention in the upcoming "evening magazine" segment about this site, i'm only one person. (i'll get you a link to the segment after it's aired and has gone online. for seattle and pnw folk, i'll post an air date as well.)

(a further aside to seattle readers: did you feel the earthquake this morning? (how many times are you going to be asked that question today?))

one more fugitive and this project is over!

Thursday, January 29, 2009

speed stick

speed racer made from speed stick.

watch the opening and you'll understand why i was hooked on manga and anime from an early, early age. (i mean, that guy that crashes his car over the cliff? he didn't parachute out! (that was a big deal to me at 6.))

rosanne barrbque sauce

rosanne barr made from barbque sauce.

one of my favorite things about the rosanne show was the relationship between darlene and david. so you can imagine how happy i am to see them both working together on "the big bang theory".

martin shortening

martin short made from vegetable shortening.

the ed grimley dance was one of my favorite dances from the '80s. other great dances include, but are not limited to, the thriller and one of the safe variety.

kate flour

katharine hepburn made from cake flour.

i wish that i could be more like katharine hepburn. in addition to being beautiful, her timing was impeccable.

kevin eyekliner

kevin kline made from eyeliner.

how incredible was kevin kline as otto in "a fish called wanda"? it's still hysterical over twenty years later. see?

usher made from blush.

i don't listen to usher because i'm an old but here's a song anyway.

diablo cocoady butter

diablo cody made from cocoa butter.

i've been sucked into "the united states of tara". (thanks, netflix preview!) toni collette is incredible and the two kids are pretty awesome as well!

lip gloss lil mama

lil mama made from lip gloss.

yeah, i know. it's kinda' an old song but it's relevant to me because leff is better at that song when we play "lips".

s'ok though. i kill him on "fake plastic trees" .   oh, and "call me". and "i wanna' be sedated".

does that mean we're even?

yo yolk ma

yo yo ma made from an egg yolk.

all of these months later and i *finally* get yo yo ma to work.

let's watch a video in celebration, shall we?

only 10 more days and this project is finished!

fake snobama

obama made from fake snow.

yes, it's true. i've used fake snow before. i've also made three previous obamas. but i don't care. i'm going to be standing on the mall in the freezing a@$ cold watching our new president get sworn in today!

happy obama inauguration day!!

Monday, January 19, 2009

mascsarah

sarah silverman made from mascara.

if you're easily offended, you probably don't want to click the upcoming link. but i really enjoy this particular joke of sarah silverman's.

time to jet! literally. leff and i are heading to d.c. today for obama's inauguration!

Sunday, January 18, 2009

meg and jack white eyeliner

meg and jack from the white stripes made from white eyeliner.

i *know* that i'm not the only person who's had "hotel yorba" and "seven nation army" stuck in their head for years.

actually, all white stripes songs are terribly ear wormy which is why i can't listen to them anymore.

stephen fryshadow

a special hello to anyone visiting from ravelry! thanks for clicking through!

stephen fry made from eyeshadow.

regular readers know of my great love for "jeeves and wooster". i particularly enjoy the musical bits. especially when stephen fry's all deadpan. example: "minnie the moocher". ("ho di ho di ho di, sir." haha!)

vanilla rice flour

vanilla ice made with rice flour.

this one goes out to my little brother who used to play that funky music. all. the. freakin'. time. well, at least when he wasn't rocking his hammer pants. (i'm kidding. he never owned hammer pants. (although he wanted to...)

anyway, here's ice ice baby. 'cause i enjoy cooking mcs like a pound of bacon just as much as the next person. which means, obviously, that i don't. (i do like "under pressure" though.)

Thursday, January 15, 2009

maple marple

margaret rutherford as miss marple made from maple syrup.

i used to prefer geraldine mcewan's portrayal of marple until groc told me about the rutherford films. they're really fantastic and have the greatest theme song. so, you know, thanks, groc! (and thanks for suggesting this fugitive all those months ago!)

poirollup

david suchet as hercule poirot made from four strawberry fruit rollups.

look, i love "poirot". i also love that leff sings "duh, duh, duh, duh, duh/it's poirot/it's poirot" to the theme song.

also, i am very fond of this sketch leff made of the mustachioed one.

related: bagatha christie.

turkey bacon

(please note that this bacon was consumed as part of two blts shortly after this picture was taken. (i've tried to keep waste to a minimum with this project.))

kevin bacon on turkey bacon.

once at a party someone told me that i reminded them of kevin bacon in "footloose". this was puzzling as a) i don't look like kevin bacon b) i don't dance when i'm angry. the person finally cleared things up for me when they explained that kevin bacon played a minister's kid in "footloose" while i'd been playing the role in real life for twenty odd years at that point.
